Biography
Patrick Côté born February 30, 1980 in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, member of BTT Canada under Master Fabio Holanda.
Côté started his martial arts training in the Canadian Army, where he took up boxing and subsequently added kickboxing and wrestling to his repertoire.
He began fighting in 2000 in an amateur organization and turned professional in 2002 and became a full-time fighter in 2004.
Côté made his UFC debut in 2004 at UFC 50 against Tito Ortiz. Côté accepted the fight on just four days notice when Lion’s Den veteran Guy Mezger pulled out of the main event due to an injury. He said to Ortiz before the fight that, if he thought Chuck Liddell hit hard, he hit harder. Côté lost via Unanimous decision, however, he impressed UFC officials by not being submitted or knocked out by Ortiz and displaying toughness and willingness to take the fight on short notice.
After that he had a great career in the UFC, including participating in The Ultimate Fighter 4, where he made the final against Travis Lutter at TUF 4 Finale, wins over Jason Day, Drew McFedries, Kendall Grove and Ricardo Almeida, earning him a Middleweight title shot against Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 90 on October 25, 2008.
Our Canadian member has among his rank and titles the UFC Knockout of the night honors against Kendall Grove (UFC 74 – Respect), The Ultimate Fighter 4 Middleweight (Runner Up), TKO Middleweight champion, TKO Light Heavyweight champion, King of the Cage Canadian Light Heavyweight Champion, Maximum Fighting Championships World Middleweight Champion and Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Fabio Holanda.
